My practice is to listen for where people are getting stuck and where people are hurting now.
My work is to weave a web of options to resolve the problems brought to therapy. I work from a place of mindfulness and of paying attention in a way that is oriented towards the desired change. In my practice we often discover that for something to really be new- it seems ridiculous at first and that is often part of the process of growth.
When faced with challenges we sometimes get stuck in patterns that don’t support us or our relationships. Sometimes our well-meaning attempts to solve our problems, perpetuate it and get us more stuck. Our problems can come and go or they can be persistent and chronic. Perhaps there is a goal or a relationship quality you desire and you don’t know how to “get there”. Therapy with me will help you move out of the past and into the present and future.
My work is to listen to “what hurts” now and collaborate to find solutions that will work. We will clarify what is getting in the way of living how you want to live, consider alternative ways to approach what you want and take steps towards the life you want to be living
“We are all a sum of our past and it is important to move into the future.” Karin Schlanger
The Model of Brief Therapy
Brief Therapy was born when a team of mental health professionals considered the amount of time and energy that is spent talking about problems rather then solutions that might bring relief. Traditional therapy opens many doors and the result is prolonged therapy. This model has influenced communication, marketing, business, mental health and many other care models affecting change.
Problem-Solving Brief Therapy focuses on the problem that the client brings to the table. In Brief therapy the client and therapist look at what is happening here and now to identify how the client’s actions are unwittingly perpetuating the undesired results. Then we look to the future , and work to stop this cycle, which results in positive change. Problems don’t always occur and even chronic issues have times when they are less severe or less frequent. There are many positive actions that people take that enables a preferred outcome or an exception to the problem, which we are often unaware of. These strengths and competencies often occur “below our radar” and in our interview we will expose those supportive ways and build upon them and learn more tools to move into the present and future.
